AMA Begins Locking Up Shops Over Unpaid Taxes and Fees

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has begun locking up shops and business premises over unpaid Business Operating Permit (BOP) fees, property rates, and rent as part of a revenue enforcement exercise starting Monday, June 22, 2026.

The move targets businesses and property owners who have defaulted on their statutory obligations, following a notice issued on Friday, June 19, 2026, warning defaulters to regularise payments or face sanctions.

According to the AMA, premises with outstanding arrears will be temporarily closed until all dues are fully settled, as part of efforts to improve revenue mobilisation for local development.

Businesses and property owners are therefore being urged to comply immediately to avoid disruptions to their operations.
