Western Regional Minister Blames Galamsey for Samreboi Flood Disaster
The Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, has expressed concern over the devastating floods that have displaced more than 1,000 residents in Samreboi.
During a visit to affected communities, he linked the severity of the disaster to years of illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey, along the River Tano and River Samre.
He urged residents to actively support efforts to curb illegal mining, noting that some community members have either aided or ignored the activities despite their environmental consequences.
The Minister emphasized that the fight against galamsey requires collective responsibility to protect lives, water bodies, and livelihoods in the region.
