Persons With Disabilities Still Face Access Barriers 20 Years On
Nearly two decades after Ghana passed the Persons with Disability Act, 2006 (Act 715), persons with disabilities in the Bono Region say many public and private facilities remain inaccessible, limiting their access to essential services and opportunities.
The Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations) is calling for the passage of a Legislative Instrument to fully enforce the law and ensure compliance.
According to the group, the absence of enforcement mechanisms has made it difficult to sanction institutions that fail to provide accessible infrastructure for persons with disabilities.
They are therefore urging policymakers to take urgent steps to bridge the implementation gap and promote inclusion across all sectors of society.
