The Ashanti Regional Security Council, in collaboration with the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, has launched a major land reclamation exercise in areas affected by illegal mining activities.

Officials say nearly 100 acres of degraded land have already been reclaimed in the Bosome Freho District as part of ongoing efforts to restore damaged ecosystems.

The initiative aims to rehabilitate lands destroyed by illegal mining (galamsey) operations and return them to productive agricultural and environmental use.

Authorities say the exercise forms part of a broader national strategy to combat illegal mining and protect Ghana's natural resources for future generations.
