African leaders push for slavery reparations beyond apologies
Months after the United Nations declared the transatlantic slave trade the gravest crime against humanity, African and Caribbean leaders gathered in Ghana to push the conversation beyond acknowledgement and toward reparatory justice.
Supporters argue that recognition alone is not enough. Their demands include debt relief, the return of cultural artefacts, formal accountability and measures to address the lasting impact of centuries of enslavement.
