The Next Step Consultative Conference on the UN Slavery Resolution brought together a powerful gathering of Heads of State, ministers, diplomats, traditional leaders, cultural icons, and international partners in Accra to advance discussions on reparatory justice, historical accountability, and the legacy of the transatlantic slave trade.

President John Dramani Mahama led calls for a more equal world, emphasizing that Ghana's reparatory justice agenda goes beyond compensation and the return of artefacts to include building global opportunities and fairness for all.

The conference featured strong interventions from leaders including Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah of Namibia, who reflected on the deep historical roots of slavery, warning against forgetting its legacy and urging a people-centred approach to development and justice.

Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, Dr. Julius Garvey, and the Speaker of Algeria's Parliament also participated in the high-level engagements.

A major cultural and symbolic dimension defined the conference, with performances by Nacee, Rocky Dawuni, Amandzeba Nat Brew, and Chief Moomen, alongside emotional moments such as the singing of Bob Marley's โ€œRedemption Songโ€ by African leaders.

Symbolic exchanges also highlighted unity, including President Mahama presenting Black Stars jerseys to global dignitaries, while Jamaica's Minister Olivia Grange presented art pieces to Ghana as a gesture of gratitude.
