Ghana, Denmark to Preserve Christiansborg Castle as Slave Trade Memorial
The Government of Ghana, in collaboration with the Danish government, is set to preserve Christiansborg Castle as a key historical site linked to the transatlantic slave trade.
According to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, discussions with his Danish counterpart aim to ensure the site is protected against erosion of historical truth, denialism, and minimalisation of the atrocities associated with its past.
He noted that the castle, which stands as a reminder of centuries of human suffering, will be preserved as part of efforts to promote truth-telling, education, and historical accountability.
The initiative seeks to ensure the site remains a “standing post for never again,” reinforcing global commitments to remembrance and reparatory justice.
