UNIMAC Warns Language Barriers Could Undermine Justice in Ghana

Researchers at the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UNIMAC) are warning that language barriers and weaknesses in court interpretation could undermine access to justice in Ghana.

Speaking on behalf of a research team, Assistant Lecturer at UNIMAC's Institute of Languages, Siddarthar Agortimevor, said court interpreters face significant linguistic, cultural, and professional challenges when interpreting proceedings in Ghana's multilingual legal environment.

The researchers caution that these gaps could affect the accuracy of court communication and ultimately impact fair trial processes if not addressed through training and institutional reforms.
