Mother of Cape Verde's Vozinha heading to World Cup to see son play

Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha made World Cup headlines after the 40-year-old earned Player of the Match in his country's historic 0-0 draw against Spain.

The veteran goalkeeper was emotional after the match as he spoke about his mother being unable to attend due to high visa costs.

Now, after efforts involving FIFA, Cape Verdean football authorities, and U.S. officials, his mother is traveling to join him and could be in the stands for Cape Verde's next game against Uruguay.

From a tearful post-match interview to a family reunion on football's biggest stage, Cape Verde's epic World Cup journey continues. #worldcup2026 #mtjag Watch CGTN LIVE on your computer, tablet or mobile https://www.cgtnnow.com/featured/events/cgtn-live-now-1 Subscribe to CGTN America on YouTube Follow CGTN America: X: @cgtnamerica Facebook: @cgtnamerica Instagram: @cgtnamerica TikTok: @cgtnamerica
