Ghana has officially fulfilled its commitment to establish its first Marine Protected Area, marking a significant milestone in sustainable ocean governance and environmental protection.
At the Our Ocean Conference in Kenya, Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister Emelia Arthur announced that the Greater Cape Three Points Marine Protected Area is now operational.
The protected zone is aimed at safeguarding critical marine ecosystems while also supporting sustainable fisheries and improving coastal livelihoods.
The initiative, known as the Greater Cape Three Points Marine Protected Area, forms part of Ghana's broader blue economy agenda focused on balancing economic growth with environmental sustainability.
The announcement was made during the Our Ocean Conference, where Ghana reaffirmed its commitment to protecting ocean resources and promoting climate resilience.
