Trump signs US-Iran MoU in Versailles after G7 summit
The United States and Iran say a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the war and reopening the Strait of Hormuz has entered into force. US President Donald Trump says he signed the agreement in Versailles after attending the G7 summit in France, while Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed the document in Tehran. The announcement comes despite plans for a formal signing ceremony in Switzerland later this week, which Iran says has not yet been confirmed. Trump's stay in France was extended by an invitation from French President Emmanuel Macron to attend celebrations marking 250 years of US independence at the Palace of Versailles. Macron had also sought to ensure Trump remained in France throughout the G7 summit in Evian-les-Bains. The agreement marks a significant step in efforts to de-escalate tensions and restore maritime traffic through one of the world's most important shipping routes.
