Community Banks Given Deadline for Name Change Compliance by BoG

Community banks across Ghana have been given up to December 31, 2026, to complete all statutory name changes, corporate rebranding initiatives, and regulatory compliance requirements following a directive from the Bank of Ghana (BoG).

The directive forms part of ongoing efforts to modernise community-level financial intermediation and strengthen the country's banking sector.

Under the new policy, all Rural and Community Banks are expected to transition into Community Banks, aligning their operations with updated regulatory standards aimed at improving efficiency and deepening financial inclusion nationwide.

The central bank says the reforms will help enhance oversight, improve service delivery, and expand access to financial services in underserved communities.
