All 17 African Countries Show High Defence Corruption Risk — Transparency International

A new assessment under the Government Defence Integrity Index has revealed that all 17 African countries evaluated show high levels of systemic risk within their defence sectors.

Speaking to journalists in Accra, Head of Research at Transparency International Defence and Security, Michael Ofori Mensah, said the findings point to major institutional weaknesses across the continent.

He highlighted challenges such as inadequate anti-corruption training for military personnel before deployment, as well as persistent vulnerabilities in procurement and contracting processes within defence institutions.

The report raises renewed concerns about transparency, accountability, and oversight in Africa's security and defence governance systems.
