Displaced families return to destroyed towns in southern Lebanon despite warnings

Residents of southern Lebanon are returning to towns and villages south of the Litani River, defying warnings from the Lebanese army and Hezbollah. Many are arriving to find widespread destruction — homes reduced to rubble, bridges damaged and entire neighbourhoods in ruins. Sleiman Kassir returned to find a four-metre crater where his house once stood, while others, like Elena Saad in the mixed Christian and Shia village of Kherbet Selm, say their return itself is an act of defiance. Israel's continued military presence in the south raises concerns over further hostilities.

Al Jazeera's Heidi Pett reports from Tibnine, Lebanon.
