The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has defended the government's decision to suspend the Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Dr. Paa Kwasi Baidoo.
According to the Minister, Dr. Baidoo admitted wrongdoing and issued an apology following the controversy over the suspension of emergency cases at the hospital, which the Minister said contradicted President John Dramani Mahama's directive on continuous emergency healthcare delivery.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Mr. Akandoh stated that the suspension was necessary as a deterrent to other public officials, even though the decision has triggered a strike action by doctors at the hospital.
The development has sparked debate over administrative authority and healthcare service delivery in one of Ghana's major teaching hospitals.
