Ghana Boosts Earthquake Monitoring With Major Seismic Upgrade

The government, through the Ghana Geological Survey Authority (GGSA), has upgraded 20 out of 21 seismic data centres across the country in a major effort to strengthen national earthquake monitoring and disaster preparedness.
According to officials, most of the seismic centres had been inactive for several years, with only two remaining operational nationwide—making the upgrade critical.
Speaking to Channel One News at the sod-cutting ceremony for the project, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, described the intervention as timely and essential for improving Ghana's geological monitoring systems.
The project is expected to significantly enhance the country's capacity to detect and respond to seismic activities.
