The UNESCO Country Director for Ghana, Edmond Moukala, has urged Ghana to strengthen its scientific and innovation capacity, stressing that true national freedom in the 21st century must be built on a country's own data, technology, and innovation.
Speaking at the launch of the Ghana National Research Fund, he said Ghana is sending a strong message to its scientists that their expertise is needed locally and will be fully supported, describing the initiative as a shift from “brain drain to brain gain.”
He further noted that UNESCO's involvement in the project has been both significant and rewarding, adding that the organization is providing technical support to help anchor the success of the Fund.
The remarks highlight growing international support for Ghana's push to expand research, innovation, and knowledge-driven development.
