India deploys more troops to Manipur as ethnic violence escalates

Ethnic conflict in the northeastern Indian state of Manipur has intensified, with recent violence between the Naga and Kuki communities adding a new dimension to a crisis that has persisted for more than three years. Six Naga men were allegedly abducted by Kuki members, prompting Naga groups to form vigilante forces and impose roadblocks cutting off supplies to Kuki areas. Thousands of Kuki people, already displaced by a separate conflict with the majority Hindu Meitei community, are now effectively trapped in camps. The Indian government has deployed additional security forces in response to the escalating unrest.
