Duanwu through the ages | A bite of 2,000 years in tradition

Zongzi is a traditional Chinese food made of sticky rice wrapped in leaves. The earliest known example was unearthed in a tomb built more than 2,000 years ago.

Records show that, over the centuries, this easy-to-eat snack has served as a ritual offering to mark the annual Dragon Boat Festival, or Duanwu Festival, and to honor the legendary poet and statesman Qu Yuan. It also offers insight into the Chinese understanding of nature's rhythms and the yin-yang balance of everyday life.
