'Lean government or bigger spending?' - Samuel Abu Jinapor speaks out on Mahama's presidency

Damongo MP Samuel Abu Jinapor has challenged the government's assertion that it is running a lean administration, arguing that the true measure of government size is the total cost borne by taxpayers rather than simply the number of ministers.

Speaking on the report submitted to Parliament on staffing at the Office of the President, the former Lands Minister questioned why government expenditure on compensation has increased despite a reported reduction in staff numbers.

He further argued that advisers, aides, coordinators, communication directors and other political appointees across ministries and diplomatic missions should also be considered when assessing the overall size and cost of government.

According to him, transparency, accountability and prudent management of public resources remain essential in safeguarding the interests of the Ghanaian taxpayer.
