Iran says ‘peace deal’ ends US blockade, war on all fronts

At a press briefing in Tehran on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei announced that a memorandum of understanding (MOU) has been reached between Iran and the United States to end the war on all fronts, including Lebanon. He described the MOU as a result of “Iranian steadfastness and resistance” against what he called two “devils” (the US and Israel). He stressed that the word “Lebanon” appears three times in the document, with commitments to end the war, respect Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Baghaei said the MOU is a two phase deal: confidence building measures first, followed by negotiations for a final agreement. Iran gives no concessions in phase one except agreeing to discuss the nuclear file later and reopening the Strait of Hormuz under Iranian management. The US must end the war on all fronts, release Iranian assets, end sanctions and provide reconstruction funds. He added that frozen assets will be freed, all primary and secondary sanctions must be lifted, and Iran will be able to sell oil and derivatives immediately after signing on Friday. On Lebanon, Baghaei expressed condolences for the recent Israeli attack on Dahiyeh, calling it a “terrorist attack”. He said Israel's crimes have led to more harmony in the resistance front. He warned that Iran will use its tools to force the other party to comply, and that Israel cannot move without US coordination – so Washington bears responsibility for any violations. Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, Baghaei said it will be reopened under Iranian management, with safe passage for commercial ships (no military vessels), service fees will be charged, and Iran will coordinate with Oman. He rejected Trump's claim that the strait would be toll free. On the nuclear issue, Baghaei said detailed talks will happen within 60 days after signing. He stressed Iran does not trust the US or Israel, citing historical betrayals since 1953. The MOU is a step toward de escalation, not a new era of trust.
