China's largest semi-submersible fish farming platform starts operation

China's largest semi-submersible integrated fish farming platform, Xinhuan No. 1, officially started operation in Sanya, south China's Hainan Province, on June 12. With an aquaculture water volume of 64,000 cubic meters, roughly equal to 20 Olympic-sized swimming pools, the platform is capable of producing 4,000 tonnes of fish a year. The first batch of about 3 million fry, mainly fourfinger threadfin and pearl grouper, will be released over 20 to 30 days. The platform will also support recreational fishing and sightseeing tours.
