G7 Summit Opens Under Shadow of Iran War and Global Tensions
Leaders of the G7 nations and invited guests from several other countries are gathering on the shores of Lake Geneva for one of the most consequential summits in recent years.
The meeting comes amid efforts to end the conflict involving Iran and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global energy supplies.
Leaders from Qatar, the UAE and Egypt have been invited to discuss the implications of the crisis for the Middle East, while concerns over the global economy and energy prices continue to grow.
The summit is also expected to focus on the wars in Gaza and Ukraine, international trade, tariffs and the rapid rise of artificial intelligence.
Analysts say divisions among allies and President Donald Trump's increasingly transactional approach to diplomacy could make this one of the most challenging G7 meetings in decades.
