Albania’s ‘Flamingo Revolution’ Protests Trump-Linked Resort Project
Narta area, a project linked to an investment firm involving Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner.
Residents say they are the rightful owners of some of the land earmarked for development and accuse the government of prioritising wealthy investors over local communities.
The ecologically sensitive area on Albania's west coast is home to flamingos, seals and sea turtles, prompting environmental activists to launch what they call the "Flamingo Revolution."
Demonstrators have taken to the streets for nearly two weeks, demanding the project be halted and raising concerns about corruption after the area's protected status was removed in 2024.
The European Union has warned that Albania must meet environmental standards if it hopes to join the bloc, but Prime Minister Edi Rama has defended the project, describing it as a future jewel of the Mediterranean.
