Government Warns Officials Over Illegal Building Approvals in Flood-Prone Areas

Government has warned that officials who approve developments in unauthorized locations will face sanctions as part of efforts to tackle recurring flooding in parts of the country.

Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, issued the warning after inspecting flood-prone areas including Dansoman Junction, Sakaman, and Awoshie in the Ablekuma North Municipality.

He stated that government is engaging Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to ensure strict accountability in the issuance of building permits.

The Minister also urged the public to avoid dumping refuse into drains and to stop building on waterways, warning that such practices continue to worsen flooding across the country.
