Minority Members of Parliament on the Health Select Committee are demanding urgent action from government to operationalise major health facilities in the Ashanti Region, including the Afari Military Hospital, Atwima Kwanwoma Hospital, Oforikrom Municipal Hospital, and the 250-bed Sewua Hospital, all being developed under the Agenda 111 programme.
They argue that delays in completing and operationalising these facilities are denying residents access to critical healthcare services.
However, the Chairman of the Health Committee of Parliament, Dr. Mark Nawaane, has pushed back, stating that the previous administration had eight years to complete the projects but failed to do so.
He insists that the current government, led by President John Mahama and Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, remains committed to completing the hospitals once the necessary funds are available. He further noted that the economic challenges inherited by the current administration have affected the pace of project delivery.
