NADMO Orders Demolition of Shops Near Mallam Market Over Flood Risk

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has announced plans to demolish shops located opposite the Mallam Market to improve water flow and reduce the risk of flooding in the area.

The decision follows growing concerns from residents and stakeholders, who have linked recurring floods to human activities such as poor sanitation practices, indiscriminate waste disposal, and the obstruction of waterways.

Speaking during a clean-up exercise, Greater Accra Regional Director of NADMO, Dennis Nartey Adjannor, stated that the organisation will work closely with the Municipal Assembly to remove illegal structures built on waterways and drainage channels.

Authorities believe the exercise will help improve drainage, protect lives and property, and reduce the devastating impact of floods during the rainy season.
