The 2028 flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has stepped in to calm rising tensions surrounding polling station executive elections in the Akim Swedru and Akim Oda constituencies.
The intervention follows escalating disputes in the two constituencies, including a tragic incident in Akim Oda involving the aide to the Member of Parliament, which has since led to the suspension of the election process. In Akim Swedru, the process was also stalled after a group of aggrieved members secured a court injunction.
Speaking on behalf of party leadership after a closed-door meeting with all stakeholders, Nana Akomeah said Dr. Bawumia reaffirmed his commitment to unity within the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
He noted that the meeting resulted in a breakthrough, with feuding parties agreeing to reconcile and pursue peaceful resolution of their disagreements.
According to him, the NPP General Secretary is expected to visit both constituencies to finalise the reconciliation process and ensure lasting peace following the agreements reached.
The intervention is seen as a major step toward restoring calm and unity within the party at the grassroots level.
