Ignored Stop-Work Orders Behind Ghana’s Rising Building Collapse Cases – Engineers

The Ghana Institution of Engineering says the recent rise in building collapses across the country is largely due to construction projects being carried out without proper professional supervision.
According to the institution, preliminary investigations into incidents in Adenta, Newtown, and Avenor show a recurring pattern of developers ignoring stop-work and no-building directives issued by regulatory authorities.
Speaking at a press conference, Chair of the Structures Sub Division of the Ghana Institution of Engineering, Ing. Joshua Allotey, warned that continued disregard for building regulations is putting lives and property at serious risk.
