Iran attacks US facilities in Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan after strikes near Hormuz

Iran has launched strikes on US installations in the Gulf region, saying it is in response to US attacks overnight. Tehran released footage showing missiles being launched towards US targets. The strikes come after US attacks around the Strait of Hormuz, which Washington says were in retaliation for the downing of a helicopter. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned the US attacks as a violation of Iran's sovereignty and reiterated Iran's right to respond in self-defence. Iran's Revolutionary Guard says it targeted Al-Azraq base in Jordan and Ali Al-Salem base in Kuwait. Jordan's armed forces say they shot down five missiles with no injuries or material damage reported. Explosions were also seen in Bahrain, where the interior ministry says warning sirens were sounded and the public was told to take shelter. Iran has warned of more severe responses if the US continues its attacks. The strikes come after US Central Command said it completed an operation in Iran, carrying out several hours of air strikes on multiple locations in the early hours of Wednesday. Centcom said its forces struck Iranian air defence, ground control stations and surveillance radar sites near the Strait of Hormuz with precision munitions from US Air Force and Navy fighter jets. The operation was a proportional response to recent attacks on US forces and international commercial ships. Explosions were heard in the Sirik port area, with air defence activity also reported on Qeshm Island and in Bandar Abbas. Iran's IRGC said that Jask, Sirik and Qeshm were targeted by US forces, impacting a telecommunication tower and two water tanks in Sirik. In response, IRGC says it conducted drone attacks on US assets across the region including Bahrain and Kuwait, also claiming naval forces targeted at least 21 US assets. IRGC aerospace forces also claimed additional attacks on F-35 fighter jet hangars at a US base and a command and control centre in Jordan. Iran condemned the US attacks and warned of more crushing responses if they continue. Iran is expanding its scope of operations to include Jordan, and specifying targets like F-35 hangars, raising concerns of a return to consistent dynamic conflict. Kuwait and Bahrain have been targeted multiple times in the last week. Iran issued a warning to countries on the southern shores of the Gulf, saying they have a legal and moral responsibility to prevent their territory being used by the US and for the defence of Israel, and that Iran will not hesitate to target bases and logistical facilities used for aggressive operations against it.
