The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) has assured investors that Ghana remains open to foreign participation in the mining sector, despite ongoing national discussions over ownership of strategic mineral resources.
According to the Centre, efforts to increase Ghanaian participation in large-scale mining should not be interpreted as anti-investor policies, but rather as a natural progression in the development of the country's mining industry.
The debate has gained attention amid uncertainty surrounding the renewal of Gold Fields' lease for the Tarkwa Mine, one of Ghana's largest gold-producing operations.
Speaking at a media engagement, GIPC Chief Executive Officer Simon Madjie explained that Ghana's long mining history has helped build strong local expertise, positioning domestic companies to take on a more significant role in the sector while still maintaining an open investment environment.
The discussion continues as stakeholders weigh the balance between local participation and sustaining foreign direct investment in Ghana's mining industry.
