Is the US-Israel alliance at risk over Iran? | Global News Podcast

US President Donald Trump appears to be increasingly frustrated with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, analysts say, as Israeli operations against Iran and Hezbollah have threatened Washington's ceasefire with Tehran.

We ask the BBC's Middle East analyst Sebastian Usher what leverage Donald Trump has to ensure Benjamin Netanyahu adheres to a ceasefire, and whether the US-Israel alliance is at risk.

Iran launched strikes on Israel at the weekend, in retaliation for Israel's campaign against Hezbollah in Lebanon - and Israel fired back at Iran, despite warnings from Mr Trump not to do so. On Monday, the president urged both sides to "stop shooting", and both Iran and Israel agreed - though Mr Netanyahu said Israel would strike Iran with full force if it is attacked by Tehran again.

Last week, while cautioning against Israeli strikes on the Lebanese capital, Beirut, Mr Trump reportedly called Mr Netanyahu "crazy" and accused him of ingratitude. The US president has also said that he "calls all the shots", and that Mr Netanyahu "won't have any choice " but to accept any deal the US makes with Iran.
