Ashanti GMA Maintains Strike Despite Ministry of Health Assurances

The Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Medical Association has stated that its members are still on strike, despite assurances from the Ashanti Regional Minister and ongoing engagements with the Ministry of Health.
According to the Chairman, Dr. Hammond Abeiku, members were considering whether to call off or vary their strike following discussions with authorities. However, he noted that a subsequent statement from the Ministry of Health contained inconsistencies with earlier assurances.
He added that the association is awaiting the outcome of a scheduled meeting between the hospital board and the Health Minister before making a final decision.
Dr. Abeiku also indicated that the association has not officially been served with a directive from the National Labour Commission, which reportedly ordered the strike to be called off.
He clarified that while in-patient and critical cases are being attended to, outpatient department (OPD) services remain suspended.
