Engineer and Policy Analyst Michael Kosi Dedey has called on authorities to make reports on major disasters publicly available, arguing that Ghana cannot effectively prevent recurring building collapses and other tragedies if lessons from past incidents remain hidden.
His comments come as rescue operations continue at the site of the collapsed building at Avenor in North Kaneshie, where the death toll has risen to two, with two other victims rescued and receiving treatment at the Ridge Hospital.
Speaking on Channel One TV during live coverage, he noted that Ghana has witnessed several building collapses over the years but has failed to fully learn from them due to the lack of publicly accessible investigation reports.
He further questioned the handling of previous reports, including findings from past major incidents such as the Melcom disaster, urging authorities to adopt greater transparency to improve safety and accountability.
