Avenor Building Collapse: GIE President Calls for Stronger Building Certification Enforcement

President of the Ghana Institution of Engineering, Ing. Ludwig Annang Hesse, has called on Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to strengthen enforcement of building regulations following the Avenor building collapse in Accra.

He stressed that assemblies must ensure all structures undergo proper certification before approval and construction, in order to prevent avoidable disasters.

According to him, weak enforcement of building standards continues to contribute to recurring cases of structural failures across the country.

He is urging authorities to take a more active role in monitoring construction activities and ensuring compliance with engineering standards.
