Engineering Council Urges MMDAs to Tighten Building Permit Checks | Sunday Breakfast

The Registrar of the Engineering Council, Isaac Bedu, has called on Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to ensure that building plans and designs are thoroughly scrutinised before construction permits are issued.

He also stressed the need for strict monitoring of ongoing projects to ensure compliance with approved designs and the use of appropriate building materials.

His comments come in the wake of recent building collapses, including the incident at Avenor in Accra, which has renewed concerns about construction safety and regulatory enforcement.

Authorities are being urged to strengthen oversight mechanisms to prevent future structural failures.
