Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has urged Ghanaians to strictly adhere to building regulations and avoid constructing in unauthorised and flood-prone areas, warning that such actions often lead to avoidable tragedies.

She made the remarks during a visit to the scene of the collapsed three-storey building at Avenor in Accra, where one person has been confirmed dead and rescue efforts continue.

She stressed the importance of responsible urban planning and compliance with safety standards to prevent future disasters.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the collapse while emergency teams work at the site.
