Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has urged Ghanaians to comply with planning regulations and avoid constructing buildings in unauthorised and flood-prone areas to prevent avoidable tragedies.

Speaking during a visit to the scene of a building collapse at Avenor, where one person was confirmed dead, the Vice President stressed the importance of respecting building regulations and land-use guidelines.

She noted that authorities and residents are often aware of areas vulnerable to flooding and other environmental risks, making it crucial for property developers and homeowners to prioritise safety.

The visit comes amid growing concerns over building safety, flooding, and compliance with development regulations in urban communities.
