Peru votes in tight presidential runoff amid political instability

Peruvians are heading to the polls in a tightly contested presidential runoff, with conservative Keiko Fujimori and leftist congressman Roberto Sanchez locked in a statistical tie. It is Fujimori's fourth presidential bid, running on a platform of law and order amid soaring homicide rates, while Sanchez has drawn support from backers of jailed former president Pedro Castillo. Both candidates reached the runoff with just 29 percent of the vote, with 71 percent of Peruvians saying they feel unrepresented. The winner will become the country's ninth president in a decade defined by political turmoil and repeated impeachments.

Al Jazeera's Mariana Sanchez reports from Lima, Peru.
