'What I saw in Gaza was not war' Dr. Hamawy on how his medical experience shaped his campaign

"I felt that when the bombs that were falling, that were killing these children and killing these families, were with my tax dollars. When the hospital was shaking and you couldn't stand up straight, these are my tax dollars that are funding it. So I started going to Washington to try to talk to our lawmakers and tell them this is what's actually happening… I tried bringing that message, but most of the doors in Washington were closed." Dr. Adam Hamawy (D-NJ) built a national profile through his work in medicine. He was an Army combat surgeon in Iraq and he helped save the life of Sen. Tammy Duckworth after she was severely wounded in a helicopter attack in 2004. More recently, he volunteered in Gaza, providing medical care during the ongoing humanitarian crisis there. If Hamawy wins, he'll be the first Muslim Congressman in New Jersey history. Listen to Antonia and Dr. Hamawy discuss how his experiences in Gaza shaped his campaign.
