MPs Call for Stricter Social Media Rules to Protect Children Online

Some Members of Parliament are calling on government to introduce stricter regulations on social media platforms to protect children from accessing explicit and inappropriate online content.

The calls follow a proposal by the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, suggesting that individuals may be required to present a National ID card or Driver's Licence before accessing pornography websites.

Lawmakers who spoke to Channel One News say they support the initiative and believe broader measures are needed to strengthen online child protection in Ghana.

They argue that regulating digital spaces is becoming increasingly important as internet access expands among young people.
