Uruguay’s World Cup legacy
Uruguay boasts one of the strongest football traditions in South America. The nation of just over 3.4 million has won two World Cup titles.
Montevideo hosted the first-ever World Cup in 1930. Ahead of this year's tournament, expectations may not be sky-high, but the history books teach opponents never to write off the Uruguayan national team, nicknamed “La Celeste.”
