America’s culture wars: “Who gets to say what” took over our politics
Under the First Amendment, "We have the ability to believe what we believe, (and) think what we think," said Isaac Butler, author of "The Perfect Moment: God, Sex, Art, and the Birth of America's Culture Wars.” But right-wing grievance campaigns that try to "decide for the American people… who gets to say what" have become central to today's Republican politics. "We all have the right to be upset by a work of art," but "once you get into the habit of trying to prevent other people from seeing a work of art that you disagree with or are upset by, you're entering very dangerous territory."
