How the culture wars came to dominate politics and how to push back

In 1988, right-wing evangelical Christian leaders whipped up an outrage campaign against Martin Scorsese's "The Last Temptation of Christ" without ever seeing the film. They borrowed language from the civil rights movement to present themselves as persecuted, becoming the template for today's culture wars. But time and time again, Americans have proven to be resistant to attempts to control what films they can see, what books they can read, or what ideas they can share.
