Some Members of Parliament are calling on government to introduce stricter regulations on social media platforms to protect children from accessing explicit and inappropriate online content.
The calls follow a disclosure by the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, that government is considering a policy requiring individuals to present a National Identity Card or Driver's Licence before accessing pornography websites.
The proposal is aimed at preventing minors from being exposed to adult content online and strengthening child protection measures in the digital space.
Speaking to Citi News, some lawmakers welcomed the initiative and urged government to go further by implementing broader safeguards to improve online safety for children across the country.
