Officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) have warned that the indiscriminate disposal of waste into major drains could undermine efforts by city authorities in the Ashanti Region to mitigate flooding.

The officials expressed concern over the continued accumulation of plastic waste in drains that were recently dredged as part of measures to reduce flooding ahead of the rainy season.

Speaking on the issue, the NADMO Director for the Kumasi Metropolis, Godwin Larho Dela, stressed the need for stronger public compliance and enforcement to protect drainage systems and reduce flood risks.

Authorities are urging residents to dispose of waste responsibly as part of broader efforts to improve urban resilience and prevent seasonal flooding.
