Savannah Minister Orders MMDAs to Enact By-Laws Against Commercial Charcoal Production
The Savannah Regional Minister, Salisu Bi-Awurbi, has directed all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the region to introduce by-laws with punitive measures against commercial charcoal production.
Speaking during the Green Ghana Day tree-planting exercise, he warned that the increasing destruction of trees for charcoal production poses a serious threat to environmental sustainability and forest conservation in the region.
The Minister urged all district assemblies to ensure that, before the end of the year, their by-laws include sanctions to deter individuals and groups engaged in indiscriminate commercial charcoal production.
