Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has raised concerns over a growing trend in the mining sector where companies secure lease renewals and subsequently transfer or sell those assets to third parties.

He indicated that such transactions could face increased scrutiny as government prepares to take a key decision on the future of the Tarkwa Mine before the end of the year.

According to him, the development raises broader questions about transparency, ownership structures, and the long-term national interest in Ghana's extractive sector.

The Finance Minister says the government is committed to ensuring that mining lease renewals reflect value retention, accountability, and sustainable benefits for the country.
