Sam George Rejects Bagbin’s Call to Reconsider Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill

A co-sponsor of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2025, Samuel Nartey George, is urging Parliament to transmit the legislation to President John Dramani Mahama for the necessary constitutional action.

According to Sam George, Parliament's Standing Orders do not provide for the reconsideration of the anti-LGBTQ+ bill as requested by Speaker Alban Bagbin. He argues that once a bill has been duly passed by Parliament, it is the President who has the constitutional mandate to determine its next course.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the 4th Inter-Parliamentary Conference on Family, Sovereignty and Values, the Ningo-Prampram MP described the Speaker's call for reconsideration as inconsistent with parliamentary procedure.

The development adds a new dimension to the ongoing debate surrounding the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill and its legislative future.
