Sam George Pushes Back on Speaker Over Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill Transmission

A co-sponsor of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2025, Samuel Nartey George, has urged Parliament to transmit the legislation to the President for the necessary constitutional action.

He stressed that the Standing Orders of Parliament do not provide for the reconsideration of the bill, describing Parliament as a “house of rules, not a house of appeals.”

According to him, once a bill has been duly passed by the House, it is the President's constitutional responsibility to decide its fate in line with due process.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 4th Inter-Parliamentary Conference on Family, Sovereignty and Values, he described the Speaker's call for reconsideration as inconsistent with established parliamentary procedure.

The comments add to ongoing national debate over the legislative process and the future of the bill.
